Firearm safety is non-negotiable. At RangeXT, we begin every training session by reinforcing these four universal rules. They are the foundation upon which all safe firearm handling is built.

Rule 1: Treat Every Firearm as if it is Loaded

Even if you have just cleared the weapon yourself, treat it as loaded. This mindset ensures you never become complacent. Many accidents happen with "unloaded" firearms. By treating every gun as loaded, you maintain the vigilance needed for safe handling.

Rule 2: Never Point the Muzzle at Anything You Are Not Willing to Destroy

Always be aware of where your muzzle is pointing. This is known as muzzle discipline. Whether the firearm is loaded or unloaded, holstered or in hand, the muzzle should never cover anything you are not prepared to shoot.

Rule 3: Keep Your Finger Off the Trigger Until Ready to Fire

Your trigger finger should be straight and resting on the frame of the firearm until you have made the conscious decision to shoot. This is called trigger discipline. Only when your sights are on target and you have made the decision to fire should your finger move to the trigger.

Rule 4: Know Your Target and What is Beyond It

Before you fire, you must positively identify your target. You must also be aware of what is behind and around your target. Bullets can pass through targets or miss entirely, so you are responsible for where every round goes.

Why These Rules Matter

Following these rules creates multiple layers of safety. Even if one rule is violated, the others serve as backups to prevent tragedy. At RangeXT, we insist that these rules become second nature to every shooter who trains with us.

Safety is not a restriction on shooting—it is what enables responsible shooting.

When you train with RangeXT, you will learn to incorporate these rules into every aspect of your firearm handling until they become automatic.
